Bra Care…Do you love your Bras?

Just knowing that bras are the most important item in a female’s closet, it is then essential to take good care of those precious items. But what is the best way to take good care of them? We will look at the Do’s and Don’ts of Bra care.

Laundry care is very important to the longevity and continuous beauty of a bra. There are a couple of methods you can use when washing your bra.

Traditional

Hand washing a bra some people say is the best way to keep it lasting as long as it can. As a bra is such a delicate item of clothing, I suggest soaking the bra in warm detergent water for about 15 minutes or so before any rubbing starts. After that, just a simple rinse under cold water will eliminate all traces of body oils, perspiration and bacteria that can degrade the fabric.

New Age

Using the washing machine is very convenient, but there are a few rules to follow when using it for bras. Always clasp the hooks and always use a bra bag. Clasping the hooks prevents the bras from getting entangled in other clothing and the bra bag adds further protection for the bras. Washing your bras with like colors is also a great way to ensure long life. Some colors can ‘bleed’ into the delicate fabrics causing erosion.

Using a gentle detergent is best for bras, however, I know that is not always possible. According to Martha Stewart, Forever New Delicate is the best detergent for bras. I can go with Martha, she knows her stuff. If you don’t access to a gentler detergent, just be mindful that harsh detergents can break down the fibers of the fabric, especially the elastic. Please and I am begging you not to use any sort of bleach on your bras. If harsh detergents can start the break down process of the material, then imagine what bleach can do?! Bleach is a no-no.

Dryer Time

Do you like to use the Dryer for your clothes? And your bras included? The tumble dry and heat can also cause damage to the fabric. Air dry is the best way for bras. I usually place them on the clothes line individually. People ask how often should you wash your bra. Some suggest everyday, but I don’t think that is practical in the hustle and bustle of life. Others say every week, providing that you have alternated bras during that week. A dermatologist recommends that you should wash your bra after every two to three wears. I can agree with that, still alternating bras during the week.

Storage

Storing your bras is important too. Keeping all bras stored together is a good thing and folding them is an alternative to laying them flat in a drawer. If you can keep the shape of your bra cup do that as much as possible, whether that means storing them on hangers or belt or tie organizers. Never leave bras half wet or damp before storing them, as the dampness can encourage mold. Mold can grow especially in those padded bras, so it is imperative that all bras are completely dry before storage.

I hope this information is helpful to you and will encourage you and your bras to have a wonderful life together! Make sure to check out a previous post Good Bras ans Large Breasts. See you next time!
