5 Super Food Groups for Breast Health

Did you know that certain foods added to your diet, can help to reduced the risk of Breast cancer? In an attempt to help you to find your balance in life, we will go through the 5 super foods for your breast health.

Breast Cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers among women in today’s society. According to the CDC, “breasts cancer is a disease in which cells in the breasts grow out of control.”  There are different types of Breast Cancers unfortantely, and we shall explore them in my upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness series next month. We know that with early detection, it’s less likely you will die of breast cancer, it is still good to know how to prevent these particular cells from growing in your breast tissue.

After all the research that is on the internet regarding super foods, I decided that the ones that help in breast cancer prevention, need to be displayed. Full disclosure, even though you may eat these foods everyday, there is still a chance of you developing breast cancer.

Green Leafy Vegetables

These vegetables contain specific anti-cancerous properties that boosts the immune system, by fueling the antioxidants’ mechanism to defend. This defense then helps to stop the free radicals from destroying our cells, which lead to cancer. Go and get that kale, spinach, arugula and chard!

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits like oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, limes and lemons, are high in antioxidants that studies have shown reduced the risk of breast cancer by 10%. This is a great percentage by any margin, and this shows that the compounds in these particular fruits act as a great barrier to cancer.

Fish

In the general sense, eating seafood seems to be overall better for your health. However, eating fatty fish with high contents of omega 3 and 6 shows a decrease in cell damage for the reduction of risk. Foods such as sardines, salmon, and mackerel are your main fatty fish to consume.

Don’t you just love these tasty fruits. I certainly do! Their cancer prevention by the slow development and spread of the disease, shows how great these super fruits are. Packed with loads of antioxidants, they contain many vitamins, especially flavonoids that protect against DNA damage. Strawberries, rasberries and especially blueberries are the best choices for this fruit group.

Herbs and Spices

If you use herbs and spices in your foods daily, then you know how much flavor they bring to your taste buds. But they also have other properties that can help reduce the risk of breast cancer. Certain herbs such as oregano have effects that can help against aggressive cancers. Parsley along with turmeric, carry a particular flavonoid that shows anticancer properties. Spices you should use everyday are ginger, curry, thyme, rosemary, parsley and oregano, will be a great benefit to you.

 

Even though these super food groups lend well to breast cancer prevention, avoiding the use of as many processed foods as you can, will also reduce the risk as well. If you can balance your diet with these particular foods daily, that will go a long way in breast cancer prevention.
